Adaptive Load Balancing for Divide-and-Conquer Grid Applications

چکیده
Divide-and-conquer has been demonstrated as a simple and efficient programming model for grid applications. In previous work, we have presented the divide-and-conquer based Satin system and its load balancing algorithm, clusteraware work stealing (CRS). In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of CRS with respect to important properties of grid systems, namely scalability, heterogeneous compute clusters, and dynamically changing network interconnects. Our results show that CRS automatically adapts both to heterogeneous processor speeds and varying network performance, resulting in efficient utilization of the computing resources.

Loadserver -a Hybrid Dynamic Load Balancing Algorithm for Tree-based Applications 1
This paper describes the design and implementation of a dynamic load balancing algorithm, Loadserver, which is the hybrid of the two common load balancing models-centralised and distributed. Loadserver exploits the advantage of these models by using low-cost global information and distributed decision making. The algorithm has been incorporated in two kernels which support divide-and-conquer an...
متن کاملSkeletons for Divide and Conquer Algorithms
Algorithmic skeletons intend to simplify parallel programming by providing recurring forms of program structure as predefined components. We present a fully distributed task parallel skeleton for a very general class of divide and conquer algorithms for MIMD machines with distributed memory. This approach is compared to a simple masterworker design. Based on experimental results for different e...
متن کاملMillion-to-Billion Atom Simulation of Chemical Reactions: Embedded Divide-and-Conquer and Hierarchical Cellular Decomposition Frameworks for Scalable Scientific Computing
Simulating chemical reactions involving billions of atoms has been a dream of scientists, with broad societal impacts. This paper realizes the dream through novel simulation methods, algorithms, and parallel computing and visualization techniques. We have designed O(N) embedded divide-and-conquer (EDC) algorithms for 1) first principles-based parallel reactive force-field (P-ReaxFF) molecular d...
متن کاملA divide-and-conquer/cellular-decomposition framework for million-to-billion atom simulations of chemical reactions
To enable large-scale atomistic simulations of material processes involving chemical reactions, we have designed linear-scaling molecular dynamics (MD) algorithms based on an embedded divide-and-conquer (EDC) framework: first principles-based fast reactive forcefield (F-ReaxFF) MD; and quantum-mechanical MD in the framework of the density functional theory (DFT) on adaptive multigrids. To map t...
متن کاملLoad Balancing Approaches for Web Servers: A Survey of Recent Trends
Numerous works has been done for load balancing of web servers in grid environment. Reason behinds popularity of grid environment is to allow accessing distributed resources which are located at remote locations. For effective utilization, load must be balanced among all resources. Importance of load balancing is discussed by distinguishing the system between without load balancing and with loa...
